MEXICO – Oxford Federal Credit Union donated a $50 Series EE savings bond and two students got a shot at taking home up to $200 for 60 seconds of work on April 18 at the Mountain Valley Middle School Renaissance Fair.

The program rewards students for being in at least one of three categories: appropriate behavior, attendance and academic excellence. The students, three times a year, have a chance at winning gifts from merchants in the community.

More than 40 prizes were given to deserving students, with the “money booth” saved until the final drawing.

With the entire school cheering him on, the first student walked away with $32 cash for his 60 seconds in the booth, grabbing the swirling cash and inserting it through the slot in the front. The second student took home $49 dollars.

A special entry into the booth was teacher, Steven LaPointe. He walked away with $50 to support “The Doorbells,” a group raising money to benefit Jim Dorr, a MVMS teacher.

Principal Ryan Casey said, “The students love that booth. It doesn’t matter if they walk out of there with $10. They’re happy. They got to be in front of the whole school, with everyone cheering for them.”
