FARMINGTON – NASCAR fans will have a chance to see Matt Kenseth’s No. 17 Carhartt Ford Fusion up close when Broadway department store Reny’s sponsors its visit here on June 12.

The car will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day in the alley next to the store for race fans to view and to also celebrate the newly paved walkway from Anson Street parking to the Broadway stores, said Reny’s manager Carol Robbins Wednesday.

The alley is scheduled to be paved next week to resemble cobblestone and decorative lighting added to create the walkway, she said.

The car, along with a tractor-trailer full of interactive games and displays, travels across the country and the June 12 date was when it would be closest to Farmington, she said. She had hoped to get the vehicle here for the downtown Strawberry Festival celebration in July but it was too late this year. Plans have been started to have it here for next year for the festival, she said.

When Reny’s in Belfast brought the car to that store, local customers were excited and responded to a poster at the Farmington store, she said. With a fairly large, local NASCAR fan base, Robbins kept hearing the same question, “are you going to have it here?”

She found an opportunity to make a request when a Carhartt representative attended the recent Bridgton store opening. She went up to him, she said, and just asked what she would have to do to start the ball rolling and get the car to visit Farmington.

Robbins expects many fans will find a way to see the vehicle even though the visit falls on a weekday. Diecast cars will be given out during the visit while supplies last, she said.

The Farmington Downtown Business and Professional Association plan to help Robbins’ endeavor with advertising and welcoming visitors to downtown, said President Michael Mansir on Thursday.
