LISBON – Two men were hospitalized Friday morning after their vehicles collided head-on along a stretch of Route 196.
Police said Chad Nazer, 32, of Biddeford, was driving east when his Pontiac veered into oncoming traffic. The car slammed into a westbound minivan driven by James LaCasse, 45, of Westbrook, police said.
Witnesses told investigators that Nazer’s car had drifted over the center line moments before the crash. No arrests were made but police believe alcohol was a factor.
The crash occurred in front of Dingley Press. Both men were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Hospital officials could not release information on either driver.
Several citizens stopped at the scene to help both drivers as emergency crews were on the way. Neither driver had passengers in their vehicle, police said.
LaCasse was taken by ambulance to CMMC. Nazer was taken to the same hospital by LifeFlight helicopter after Lisbon firefighters extricated him from his car.
Maine State Police were called to assist with an accident reconstruction. The wreck is being investigated by Lisbon police officer Ryan McGee.
