HealthSteps announces specialty classes

LEWISTON – HealthSteps, part of the Prevention and Wellness Services offered through St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, offers a wide range of classes with the core membership fee and a variety of specialty classes, including:

Ashtanga Yoga: Primary Standing Series: The beginner class is an athletic vinyasa format (meaning poses and breath energetically flow together into the next sequence of movements). With consistent practice, each student will gain body strength, increased flexibility and peace and clarity of mind. Wear loose clothing or a leotard. Avoid eating one to two hours before class and bring a yoga mat and water bottle.

Wednesdays, May 28 to June 25, from 5 to 6 p.m.; $32 a session; Lepage Large Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave.

Bellydancing Aerobics: An intense workout utilizing the movements of bellydancing offered by Imari (Lisa Cummings). Mondays, June 9, 16, 23, 30, July 7, 14, from 7 to p.m.; $45; Lepage Large Conference Room.

Hoops: Use a weighted hula hoop to tone trouble spots. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 9, 16, 23, 30, July 7, 14, from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.; $120, which includes a weighted hoop; $99 for those who have previously participated in the class and already own a hoop; Lepage Large Conference Room.

Zumba: Zumba is a blend of Latin and international dance themes that combines high energy and motivating music with easy-to-follow dance steps and body sculpting movements. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 3 to July 10, from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.; $99; Lepage Large Conference Room.

Exercise for People with Arthritis: The class helps individuals improve range of motion, flexibility, muscle strength, posture, balance and coordination.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 26 to July 31, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.; $20; free with HealthSteps core membership; Bank of America Room, Corinne Croteau Lepage Women’s Health Pavilion, 330 Sabattus St.

Senior Fitness: The one-hour class provides participants with a safe and effective workout that includes a warm-up, cardiovascular component, resistance training to build strength, balance and flexibility exercises.

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, June 23 to Aug. 1, from 9:15 to 10:15 or 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; $30; Nutrition Center of Maine, corner of Bates and Walnut streets.
