PORTLAND (AP) – Democrat Adam Cote and Republican Charlie Summers have won endorsements from the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram in the 1st District congressional race.
The newspaper cited Cote’s willingness to work with others across the aisle to move the country forward, as opposed to staking out partisan ground that often gives politicians credit for futile measures.
It notes that unlike three Democratic rivals Cote did not promise to try to impeach President Bush.
As for Summers, the newspaper says he has accomplishments in the Maine Legislature and as an aide to Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe, beyond his recent service in Iraq. It also characterized him as a moderate voice compared to his GOP rival, Dean Scontras.
