Legion Auxiliary is reformed in Turner

TURNER – For the first time since 1919, an American Legion Auxiliary Unit 111 was formed and its officers installed by Installing Officer Audrey L’Heureux of Post 153, New Auburn.

An installation ceremony was held at Leavitt Area High School on May 15 in conjunction with the Post 111 installation.

Mary Richardson, who was instrumental in the formation of the unit, joined in honor of her late husband, Sherman C. Richardson, Vietnam veteran.

Richardson said the unit will carry out the purposes of the American Legion Auxiliary in a spirit of unselfish devotion to the well being of the American republic.

The auxiliary was formed to aid the American Legion in carrying out the program of peacetime service to America to which the American Legion is dedicated. Its activities are designed to promote the work of the American Legion and to help the American Legion reach its objectives.

Anyone wishing to serve in honor of their husband, father or grandfather may call Richardson at 225-3945 or visit www.maineamericanlegion.com. The next auxiliary meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at the Leavitt Institute Building, Community Room.
