PARIS – The Paris Public Library is hosting an open house on Saturday, May 31, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Jeannette Merrill Soule addition. The addition, which nearly doubled the size of the library, was funded largely through donations by Albert B. Soule in memory of his late wife, Jeannette.
The open house will feature several activities. At 1 p.m., Shane Michlon and Aaron DeWitt will hold a workshop for children on juggling. They will then amuse visitors to the library with a strolling juggling show. At 2 p.m., John Governale will perform for all with his guitar.
Pat Gott will hold a signing for her new book, “Cowgirl Days,” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sequel to “So You Wanna be a Cowgirl” continues Gott’s adventures as a horse wrangler and guide in Wapiti, Wyo.
The first book in the library’s summer “Positive Psychology” reading series, “A Complaint Free World,” will be available at the open house.
The discussion series will explore several ways participants may improve their personal lives by understanding the effects caused by their basic assumptions, attitudes and beliefs.
With this series, the library honors Jeannette Merrill Soule, who was an early advocate of the power of “positive thinking.” Anyone interested may sign-up at the open house for one or all four discussions.
The library’s staff will also demonstrate the new circulation and catalog software Destiny, produced by the Follett Corp. When fully operational, library patrons will be able to search, reserve and renew materials over the Internet, with the Title Peeks feature of the catalog providing book summaries and reviews.
Light refreshments will be served from 1 to 3 p.m. For more information about the open house or any of the other activities, call the Paris Public Library at 743-6994 or e-mail [email protected]. Everyone is invited and all activities are free.
