PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Environmental officials are warning Hopkinton residents to be cautious after three fox attacks, including one by a fox that tested positive for rabies.
The first attack happened Thursday night when a rabid fox bit a person using a weed trimmer in a yard. A second person was bitten as Hopkinton and state environmental police worked to capture the animal.
A third person was bitten in the same area Friday, but that fox has not been captured.
Each of the three bite victims must undergo a series of vaccinations against the virus.
Scott Marshall, a veterinarian for the Department of Environmental Management, says residents should stay away from wildlife and vaccinate their pets against the disease.
