NEW GLOUCESTER – Police released details Monday about a multi-vehicle crash on the Maine Turnpike last week.

A chain reaction in the southbound lane about a mile north of the barrier toll was triggered shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday by a dog crossing the highway. In slowed traffic, a Brink’s armored car slammed into the back of a Honda SUV, which hit a Chevrolet sedan. That car rear-ended a Ford Taurus, which hit the back of a tractor-trailer tanker truck that was empty, Maine State Police Trooper David Andreasen said.

Two of the drivers suffered minor injuries; one was airlifted to a Lewiston hospital. A passenger in the Ford, Janet Morin, 38, of Lewiston, also was slightly injured, Andreasen said.

The driver of the Brink’s truck was Richard Gosselin, 47, of Sabattus; of the Honda Pilot, Kenneth Lizotte, 52, of Nottingham, N.H.; of the Chevrolet, Ruth Leigh, 49, of Fairfield; of the 2002 Ford Taurus, Cher Binette, 38, of Lewiston; and of the tanker truck, Joseph Clark, 54, of Oxford.

Leigh was flown by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center. Binette was taken to the hospital by ambulance. They were not patients at the hospital as of Monday, a spokeswoman said.
