PORTLAND – Janet C. Smith, BSN, MSN, has joined MaineHealth as director of the new Center for Quality and Safety.
The center is responsible for working with MaineHealth member and affiliate organizations to support the development, implementation and monitoring of performance improvement and patient safety initiatives system-wide.
With more than 30 years in health care teaching, administration and nursing, Smith comes to MaineHealth from the Sisters of Charity Health System in Lewiston, where she served as director of performance improvement. She was responsible for development, facilitation, oversight and evaluation of the performance and patient safety plan for all entities within the Sisters of Charity system. Before that, she was a health services consultant for the Bureau of Medical Services for Maine. In her capacity as a federally-certified surveyor for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, she assessed and monitored the delivery of care according to state regulations and federal Conditions of Participation.
