Lewiston and Auburn are looking for a few good hands to help them clean up graffiti in both cities as part of what has become an annual effort.
Both police departments are seeking volunteers for the June 14 project. Cleanup crews armed with paintbrushes and cleaning products will be canvassing the communities working to remove or cover existing graffiti.
The goal is to clean up as much graffiti as possible.
“The cities of Auburn and Lewiston are dedicated to eliminating graffiti, and are committed to preserving the beauty and improving the appearance of the Twin Cities area,” police wrote in a statement. “Graffiti is an unauthorized inscription, word, figure, or design that is marked, etched, scratched, drawn or painted on any surface without the property owner’s permission.
“It diminishes the quality of our neighborhoods and the community overall, and the amount of graffiti found locally has more than doubled in recent months.”
Anyone interested in participating should contact Liz Allen, VIPS coordinator at 333-6650, ext. 2070 or via e-mail at [email protected].
