EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – Landon Donovan became the fourth youngest player in the world to make 100 international appearances when the United States’ career goal leader started in an exhibition against Argentina at Giants Stadium on Sunday night.

Donovan, who was 26 years, 3 months, 4 days at game time, returned to the lineup after missing recent exhibition games against England and Spain with a strained groin.

According to the U.S. Soccer Federation, the only younger players to make 100 appearances were South Korea’s Cha Bum-Kun, who was 24 when he reached 100 in 1977, and Saudi Arabia’s Sami Al-Jaber and Mohammed Al-Deayea, who were each 25 in 1998.

The U.S. will start its World Cup qualifying next Sunday.

with a game against Barbados in Carson, Calif. The national team will finish the home-and-home series on June 22 at Barbados.
