GRAY – Sidney C. Leavitt, 85, born July 22, 1922, in Gray, passed away Friday, June 6.

He attended schools in Gray, graduating from Pennell Institute at the age of 16.

He worked at Saco Lowell and was a welding instructor at New England Shipyards, building Liberty Ships. He cut and sold timber before and after working 34 years at S.D. Warren.

A lifelong outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and camping. He was a member of Pennell Alumni, First Congregational Church of Gray, Roadrunners RV Club, life member of Presumpscot Lodge No. 17 of Masons with 50 years medal and many years as a noble of Kora Temple Shrine.

He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Kathleen.

He is survived by his son, Daniel and his wife, Tamara; two granddaughters, Amanda and Katherine; sister-in-law, Dorothy; and many nieces and nephews.
