FALMOUTH (AP) – Two environmental groups opposed to Plum Creek Timber Co.’s massive development plan for the Moosehead Lake region are calling on regulators to block development on the Lily Bay peninsula north of Greenville.
Maine Audubon and the Natural Resources Council of Maine say the Land Use Regulation Commission should remove Lily Bay from the project, even if that means a 33,500-acre reduction in the amount of conservation land on the opposite side of the lake.
The two groups are holding news conferences Thursday in Falmouth and Bangor to outline their stance in advance of LURC’s anticipated decision on the project sometime this fall.
