LEWISTON – Gary St. Hilaire, the man struck in the head with an ice chopping tool Monday night, was listed in critical condition Thursday at a Lewiston hospital.
The 44-year-old suffered serious head injuries when he was struck during an attack at Walnut and Bartlett streets Monday night. His last known address was Lisbon, police said.
St. Hilaire was listed in serious condition at Central Maine Medical Center earlier in the week. On Thursday, a hospital spokesperson said his condition had become critical.
Police said part of St. Hilaire’s skull was crushed in the 10 p.m. attack they believe may have been the result of a robbery.
He has remained in an induced coma at the hospital since he was first brought there.
Investigators said they have leads pointing to the identity of the assailant. However, no arrests were made by Thursday night.
