TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – CNN host Lou Dobbs on Friday shot down rumors that he has been considering a run for New Jersey governor.

Dobbs said that he’s flattered by the support, but doesn’t have the temperament for politics. “I’m just the wrong personality type,” he said.

Rumors of a possible Dobbs run had been circulating New Jersey political circles for days. His denial was first reported Friday on The Star-Ledger of Newark’s Web site.

Dobbs, 62, hosts CNN’s “Lou Dobbs Tonight” and is known for commentary on national politics, especially illegal immigration.

He lives on a 300-acre farm in Sussex County in rural northwestern New Jersey.

Democratic Gov. Jon S. Corzine has said he intends to run for re-election next year.

“It must have been my latest Quinnipiac poll that scared him away,” the governor joked. The poll found 52 percent of New Jersey voters disapprove of Corzine’s performance.
