WINSLOW (AP) – FPL Energy is moving forward with the removal of a dam on the Sebasticook River now that it has received a favorable ruling by the Winslow Zoning Board of Appeals.

Town Attorney William Lee says the Zoning Appeals Board’s vote this week came with conditions. One of them is that the entire dam, not just part of it, be removed.

The removal of the Fort Halifax Dam has been under dispute for seven years.

A local group called Save Our Sebasticook opposes the dam’s removal. SOS plans to meet this week to discuss whether to continue the appeal process.
