LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) – A Lawrence teenager once identified by police as a suspect in a fatal shooting in the city has himself been gunned down.
Police said 18-year-old Jesse Mestre was fatally shot at the intersection of Avon and Jackson streets about 4:25 a.m. on Friday morning. He died four hours later in a Boston hospital.
It was the city’s third homicide of the year.
Investigators are looking at a possible link with the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Jose Ramos Jr. last August.
Mestre was one of four people indicted on charges in connection with Ramos’ death, but the charges were later dropped.
Police Chief John Romero said Mestre was targeted.
