Poland Fire Rescue visits with students

POLAND – During EMS Week, Poland Fire Rescue educated students on emergency situations and on when and how to activate the 911 system.

Poland Fire Rescue sent two ambulances and staff to Poland Community School for a tour of the ambulances and a question/answer session to make students more familiar and comfortable with their local EMS personnel.

All students from kindergarten through second grade were presented a color and activity calendar to take home. The book provided a fun way for the children to learn about safety. Each month’s safety tips encourage the children to practice safety every day.

Grades three and four entered a picture contest. The winners were two fourth-graders. Maddy Childs took first and won an EMS microfleece blanket roll and Lincoln Anderson, second, won an EMS deluxe lunch bag. The picture was intended to show how an EMS service provides assistance, learning and medical care to a community.

Completed posters were judged by Acting Chief Mark Bosse, Captain Diane Delano, Lieutenant Michael Walsh, Jill Libby and Nichole Cargnino. Prizes were awarded on May 21 by Bosse and Delano at Poland Community School following announcement of the winners.

Poland Fire Rescue hopes to work with the Bruce M.Whittier Middle School and Poland Regional High School next year with an age-appropriate program.
