LEWISTON – For area residents looking to complete a high school diploma and/or prepare for college-level coursework, Lewiston Adult Education is offering a number of academic classes in July.

“Critical Reading Strategies for College and Work”: For students who would like to learn how to better process written material and improve reading comprehension, the class will teach how to read course texts, technical manuals and research, as well as master effective note-taking techniques. Meets from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, July 8 to Aug. 7.

Algebra I: Students will learn the concepts of algebra to prepare for college placement exams and improve success in college math courses. Meets from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, July 8 to Aug. 7.

Math Lab Support: The class is for students who wish to get a jumpstart on their next math class by refreshing everyday problem-solving skills and building problem-solving skills. Meets from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, July 8 to Aug. 5.

Chemistry: Explore the structure of the elements and their interactions. The class involves the study of metrics, structure of matter, formulas and equations. Meets from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, July 8 to Aug. 7.

Contemporary Government: Students will study the foundation of the government through primary documents and use concepts of civics and government to understand political systems, power, governance and the role of citizens in the community. Meets from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, July 8 to Aug. 7.
