NEWRY – Sunday River Ski Resort recently announced the hiring of Brent Larson to the position of mountain manager. Larson was most recently night skiing operations manager and snowmaking supervisor at Boyne Highlands in Michigan.

Larson started skiing at age 5 in Michigan and has been raised in the ski industry as a racer, ski repair technician and Salomon ski test representative. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. He relocated to the Bethel area in May and looks forward to fishing western Maine’s rivers and golfing at the Sunday River Golf Club.

Sunday River anticipates adding approximately 70 new Boyne low-E fan guns this summer, which Larson has worked with extensively at Boyne Highlands. Planning is under way to offer 12-hour skiing that extends into the evenings on North Peak and South Ridge on select weekends and holiday periods during the 2008-2009 season.

Marvin Collins, Sunday River’s vice president of mountain operations for the last 10 years, will be moving into a project-focused role that will center on specific large-scale tasks including the installation of New England’s first Chondola and the hosting of the Snowboarding World Cup in February of 2009.
