LIVERMORE FALLS – Detours will be set up in July to allow workers to improve three railroad crossings and make the ride downtown smoother.

The Maine Department of Transportation has designed two detour plans and will install signs telling motorists to avoid construction areas, according to a notice put out by Town Manager Martin Puckett.

The Depot Street and Main Street crossings will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. Monday, July 7, through 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 9.

A detour for those three days will be on Pleasant Street to Church Street.

The downtown areas will be accessible from Water Street and Foundry Street.

The Bridge Street crossing, also known as Route 4, will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. Monday, July 14 through 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 15.

Maine Street and Depot Street will be open during this period of work.

Traffic from Route 133 to southbound Route 4 and all traffic on Route 4 will use Crash Road.

After the crossings are repaired and backfilled, recycled pavement will be put down for traffic and to allow loaded trains to cross. That will help to complete proper compaction and ensure longevity of the crossings, Puckett’s memo states.

Pike Industries plans to be in Livermore Falls from late July to early August for paving.
