BUCKFIELD – A grandmother’s concern inadvertently caused three injuries on Monday morning.
Cpl. Chancey Libby of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said Lori Hodgkin, 49, was driving a 1998 Ford Windstar north on North Buckfield Road when she heard her 3-year-old grandson, James Carter, coughing. Libby said Hodgkin thought Carter was choking and turned to check on him.
The van crossed the center line and struck a utility pole. Hodgkin, Carter, and Hodgkin’s 51-year-old husband, Ronald Hodgkin, were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after complaining of neck, back, and chest pains. They were not admitted, a nursing supervisor said Monday night. Their addresses were not available Monday night.
Buckfield Rescue, the Buckfield Fire Department, and United Ambulance also responded to the scene.
All three occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the wreck. The van was totaled.
