Democrats are expected to caucus at Naples Town Office next week to appoint a replacement nominee for the race for House District 101, which includes Casco, Naples and part of Poland.

A meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 10. Any registered Democrat from the district may participate.

Jim Krainin of Naples is seeking appointment to fill the spot left vacant by Democratic nominee Peter Powers, who dropped out late last month, according to state officials.

Krainin, a retired psychiatrist, said he understands the health care system as well as small business, having managed his own practice for 35 years.

He said a “strong advocate for the region who is a democratic supporter is badly needed here.”

Clark Souther of Livermore Falls, the democratic nominee for House District 81, which covers Leeds, Livermore, Livermore Falls and Wayne, withdrew from that race. No date has been set for a caucus to select a replacement nominee, a state party official said.
