BOOTHBAY HARBOR (AP) – A lobster boat caught fire and sank off the Maine coast, but the lone lobsterman on board jumped overboard and was rescued by another fishing boat.
The Coast Guard said the 35-foot boat, Perry’s Pride III out of South Bristol, caught fire at 9 a.m. Saturday about five miles from Boothbay Harbor.
By the time Coast Guard vessels arrived, another fishing boat had already retrieved the 50-year-old lobsterman from the water. The Coast Guard then took him ashore, where he was transferred to a Boothbay Harbor hospital.
The Coast Guard says the boat sank in 108 feet of water and that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
