CHICAGO – Rich Harden struck out 10 in an impressive debut for the Chicago Cubs, who blew a five-run lead in the ninth inning before beating San Francisco on Reed Johnson’s single in the 11th.

NEW YORK – Jose Reyes homered and the resilient New York bullpen shut down the Colorado Rockies after Pedro Martinez left with a sore shoulder, combining on a one-hitter.

PHILADELPHIA – Randy Johnson helped secure his 290th victory with a two-run double to start an eight-run fourth inning, and Arizona beat Philadelphia.

Johnson (6-7) struck out three in six innings, but left while warming up in the seventh because of cramping in his calf that began after running the bases in the fourth.

PITTSBURGH – Jason Michaels hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning, the Pirates’ third big homer in three innings, and Pittsburgh rallied from six runs down in the eighth to beat the Cardinals.

St. Louis appeared to be cruising with a season-high 22 hits while taking leads of 9-3 in the seventh and 10-4 in the eighth, but Jason Bay hit his second two-run homer of the game in the eighth.

MILWAUKEE – Edinson Volquez struck out 10 in seven sharp innings for his 12th win, and Adam Dunn homered twice to lead Cincinnati past Milwaukee.

Volquez (12-3), Cincinnati’s lone All-Star, lowered his NL-leading ERA to 2.29. He gave up six hits and two runs, one earned. The right-hander walked two in his fourth double-digit strikeout game this season.
