ANDOVER – State Sen. David Hastings, R-Fryeburg, and State Rep. Sawin Millett, R-Waterford, were speakers at the June 17 meeting of the Oxford County Republican Committee at the Congregational Church. They discussed the successes and failures of the recently completed legislative session.

Following a meal provided by the Andover Republican Town Committee, Vice Chairman Neil Hanley of Hartford, who conducted the business meeting, introduced Josh Reny, who will serve Oxford County as part of the Maine Victory 2008 effort, and Jessica James, who is U.S. Sen. Susan Collins’ Oxford County coordinator.

Both reported on their efforts and plans to ensure a Republican victory in November. Several candidates for election or re-election were introduced, including Rob Cameron of Rumford, candidate for House District 92, County Commissioner Steve Merrill of Norway, Register of Probate Tom Winsor of Norway as well as Millett and Hastings.

The committee thanked the Andover Republicans, led by Paula Smith, for hosting the county and for their hospitality.

The next meeting of the committee was announced as the annual barbecue at Stan Howe’s home in Bethel on Tuesday, July 8, with Alexander Willette, chairman of the Maine College Republicans, as the speaker.

The Maine College Republicans have been recognized for the past several years as the outstanding college chapter in the nation for their work in support of Republican candidates.
