George and Ira Gershwin, along with DuBose and Dorothy Heyward, years back, came up with a song that stated, “Summertime, and the living is easy.” That may have been true back then. “It ain’t necessarily so,” contradicts that statement.

As senior citizens on fixed income, my wife and I are becoming more and more frustrated as each day goes by. How can we survive? How can we meet our obligations and yet feed, take care and clothe ourselves?

How?

Something has to be initiated quickly to ease the basic necessities to exist. Note, I said, “to exist.” Forget the notion that we must put aside for future needs – that is just a dream.

Elected officials need to act responsibly, right now. They must act. The time is now for Sen. Olympia Snowe and Sen. Susan Collins and Rep. Tom Allen and Rep. Mike Michaud. They all made promises when seeking high positions, and now constituents are awaiting some results.

And come election time, they will be out there, making claims as to what they accomplished, and will add more promises.

This nation needs results, not unkept promises.
