LEWISTON – The Timothy J. Mynahan Foundation has announced the TJM Scholarship recipient for 2008. The $2,500 scholarship has been awarded to Matthew Letourneau, a graduate of Lewiston High School.

Criteria for selection of the scholarship are based on academic and athletic excellence and commendable leadership ability.

Letourneau is a four-year varsity athlete, participating in football, ice hockey and tennis. His athletic and leadership ability is exemplified by being named captain of all three teams in his senior year.

He further achieved the distinction of being named to the First Team All-Conference in football and tennis. Additionally, he was chosen as Team MVP in Football and named to the First Team All-State, All-Academic Team in Ice Hockey. His ability earned him the President’s Award through the Lewiston/Auburn Sports Hall of Fame and Chamber of Commerce.

Academically, Letourneau distinguished himself by achieving excellence throughout his high school years. He is a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and Math Team. He has demonstrated a sense of community through his association with the LHS L-Club and Special Olympics. His summers are spent working for the “Better Hockey” program as a counselor and for the Lewiston Recreation Department as head tennis counselor.

Letourneau is attending Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., in the fall. He is the son of Marc and Susan Letourneau of Lewiston.
