JAY – School Committee members appointed Judy Diaz on Monday to fill a vacant term on the board until the next election.

The appointment came after the board interviewed three candidates who applied for the position.

Chairwoman Mary Redmond-Luce said the board needs to clarify if the next election would be considered the statewide November vote on or in the spring at the annual town meeting.

The board also accepted the resignation of Joe Makley, the school system’s curriculum and technology director, Redmond-Luce said.

Makley has taken a job with the Portland School Department, she said.
