TURNER – Get ready for the North Turner Presbyterian Church chicken barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 9. After the great turnout for last summer’s inaugural barbecue attempt, church members are ready to serve it up again.
And this year church members have planned for the “to go” window that so many wanted last year. There is no drive through, but workers will be happy to make the meals “to go.”
Unlike a majority of the church suppers, this event is scheduled for a Saturday, not a Friday, and serving will begin at 3 p.m. It will continue until 6 p.m. or whenever the chicken runs out.
Along with the chicken, there will be a variety of homemade salads, including coleslaw, potato and macaroni salad as well as homemade biscuits and desserts. As always, free will donations will be appreciated but there is no set price.
The church members produced a cookbook this winter called “Blissful Bread and Other Sustenance,” which contains many of the recipes that the community enjoys at the public suppers. There were only 200 printed and they have been on sale since Mother’s Day. There are only 30 left; to purchase one, call 224-7913, 225-3370 or 779-6658 to reserve a copy. If there are any left, they will be on sale at the barbecue.
These fundraising activities are the church’s main source of income and allow the doors to stay open. All are invited to the services at 9 a.m. Sundays. Fellowship follows church.
