CHARLESTOWN, N.H. (AP) – A 53-year-old man has died and a New Hampshire state trooper has been shot following a confrontation in Charlestown, Attorney General Kelly Ayotte said.

Ayotte said state and local police went to execute a search warrant Saturday night at a house. While at the scene, they found Anthony Jarvis, and determined he was a felon who had a weapon.

Ayotte said Jarvis would not comply with police orders to leave, so the police entered.

She said as they entered, shots were fired, injuring the trooper; Jarvis was found dead.

The trooper was being treated at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon for non life-threatening injuries.

No further information was released on the shooting itself, how Jarvis died, the trooper’s injury or his condition.

An autopsy on Jarvis was expected Monday.
