BETHEL – The 29th annual Sudbury Canada Days, summer heritage festival of the Bethel Historical Society, will be held Aug. 8-10.
The event will begin Friday, Aug. 8, with the 17th annual Hall Memorial Lecture, “Marsden Hartley: New England and 1930s Regionalism,” by Donna Cassidy, Ph.D., professor of American and New England studies and art history, University of Southern Maine. She will discuss this world-famous Maine artist, a native of Lewiston, as well as his impact on and relationship to his region.
Saturday, Aug. 9, will open with 18th century re-enactors and craft demonstrations. There will be a horseshoe tournament, children’s parade, art show, children’s games and ice cream eating contest, flower show, historical videos, farming/logging exhibit, badminton and croquet tournaments, log driver’s bean supper, and evening entertainment by the re-enactors.
On Sunday, there will be more re-enactor activities, an open house at the Lower Sunday River Schoolhouse and a historical lecture. The day will end with an old-time hymn sing at the Middle Intervale Meetinghouse. For more information, call (800) 824-2908.
