SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (AP) – Vermont State Police say a man who beat his infant daughter has been charged with aggravated domestic assault.

The 7-week-old remained in “grave condition” Thursday at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

Detective Sgt. Michael O’Neil says the baby’s mother called 911 on Monday night to report a problem with her baby, telling authorities she had been dropped on her head by her father, Andrew L. Bedner, Jr., 28, of Springfield.

An exam at Springfield Hospital showed that in addition to life-threatening head injuries, the baby had rib fractures.

Bedner was charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated domestic assault. He was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
