POLAND – A man and a woman from Poland remained hospitalized Friday, a day after the car they were riding in slammed into a tree on Summit Springs Road.
Hazel Kinney, 89, was listed in critical condition at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston on Friday night with injuries suffered in the crash.
Philip Larrabee, 62, was listed in serious condition at CMMC, according to a nursing supervisor.
Investigators from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department said there were indications that the driver of the car, Ernest Kinney, 82, may have fallen asleep at the wheel when he crashed it about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Kinney was driving a Buick LeSabre north on Summit Springs Road when the car drifted off the road and struck a tree, according to sheriff’s Lt. Glenn J. Holt.
The crash remained under investigation.
