Ice cream social
PERU – The Worthley Pond Association is sponsoring an ice cream social from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the bus on the Greenwood Road. Ice cream cones will be free to anyone who attends regardless of membership.
AARP picnic
PARIS – The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will host a picnic on Monday, Aug. 11, at the Oxford County University of Maine Co-operative Extension Education Center in South Paris.
The noon picnic will be $5 a person and includes sandwich or sandwiches, chips and dessert. Those attending should bring their own drinks. There will be tables and seating, rain or shine. Sandwich choices are chicken salad, seafood salad, egg salad or ham salad.
Reservations are required by calling Thelma at 743-6124 by noon on Friday, Aug. 8. Leave a message with name, number and kind of sandwiches.
Becky Armstrong will lead tours of the gardens and answer questions.
Class luncheon
RUMFORD – Stephens High School Class of 1951 will meet for luncheon at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Brian’s Bistro. All classmates are welcome. For information, call Marie at 364-8883 or 562-7047.
Blood drive
RUMFORD – The Rumford American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor an American Red Cross community blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Rumford American Legion Hall. All donors will receive a Red Cross/Boston Red Sox T-shirt and the chance to win a pair of tickets to a Red Sox game. Class meeting
MEXICO – The Mexico High School Class of 1948 will meet for luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Far East.
Seniors meet
DIXFIELD – Neighborly Senior Citizens met on July 16 at the Dixfield Legion with 41 present. The meeting was called to order by President Connie Tutlis, who read several selections.
Observing a July birthday was Ruperta Nichols; July anniversaries, Bob and Linda Maheux, one year, and Hector and Rita Girardin, 50 years. A get-well card was signed for Kay Barker. Door prizes were won by Margorie Harlow and Linda Maheux. Following a potluck dinner, entertainment was provided by Norman and Betty Decoteau.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, Aug. 20, with a potluck dinner and beano.

Bridge play
RUMFORD – The results of the Rumford Duplicate Bridge Club July 17 game are announced. Paula Humbert and Clara Roy were winners with Anna Cormier and Jessie Shea second. There was a three-way tie for third: Alan Bradford and Bob Soucy, Eric and Marilyn Sahlburg and Bill and Jean Hersey.
