LEWISTON – The Andy Valley Umpires Association will hold its monthly meeting at 7:45 p.m. tonight at the Multi-Purpose Center. Items to be discussed are the selection of officers for next year, rule interpretations and a review of the annual scholarship tournament. Also on the agenda is the banquet update.
St. Dom’s launching Athletic Hall of Fame
AUBURN – St. Dominic Regional High School is pleased to announce the establishment of an athletic Hall of Fame. The St. Dom’s Athletic Hall of Fame will honor former players and coaches who have achieved athletic excellence throughout their careers at St. Dom’s.
The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given posthumously to Coach Bob Boucher.
Athletic Hall of Fame inductees are Fernand Cloutier (Class of 1952), Richard LeFrance (posthumously, ’53), Richard Robert (’65), Pauline Therriault Veinote (’85) and Coach Albert Strong (’67-’74 & ’76-’82).
The State Champions Recognition Award will be presented to the 1951 Boys Hockey Team, who were the first ever New England Champions from St. Dom’s.
The inaugural induction dinner and awards ceremony will take place Sept. 20 at St. Dom’s. A social begins at 6 p.m. Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be catered by Paul and Kate Landry of Fishbones and Mac’s Grill.
Tickets are available for $20 each. RSVP by Sept. 1. Inductees and a guest will be asked to attend with St. Dom’s compliments.
“We are just thrilled at the opportunity to remember our great athletic tradition,” said Principal Donald Fournier. “It is a privilege to remember these athletes and coaches in this way.”

Auburn Rec Youth Football next week
AUBURN – Auburn Recreation Department announces its annual youth football camp for the week of August 11-15.
Cost to residents is $25, with a $40 charge for non-residents. Register in person at Auburn Rec office, 48 Pettengill Park Road, Hasty Community Center, or call 333-600 for more information.
The camp is held daily, rain or shine, at Chestnut Street Field. First through fourth grade meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., with Grades 5-8 from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.
The primary goal of the camp is to expose the participants to proper fundamentals, skills, techniques and drills for the game of football.
All sessions start with a 15-minute warmup, followed by equal time devoted to offense and defense.
The only equipment needed is comfortable clothing, sneakers or cleats and a water bottle. This is a non-contact camp.
Fryeburg men’s hoop planning alumni game

Outdoorswomen sought
WINSLOW – The Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife is hosting the 11th Annual Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Introductory Skills Weekend at Camp Caribou on Pattee Pond. The camp is slated for the weekend of Sept. 19-21.
This workshop is directed towards women 18 and up who are interested in gaining or improving skills in hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation in a safe and comfortable environment. The weekend provides participants with the opportunity to try a variety of outdoor activities under the supervision of experienced Instructors and Registered Guides.
Cost is $210 and covers everything – food, lodging, all equipment and lots of opportunity to learn. Some of the topics offered include canoeing, kayaking, outdoor survival, firearms use and range safety, skeet shooting, turkey hunting, duck hunting, fly casting, fly tying, GPS, map and compass, archery, trapping, bow hunting, trip planning, outdoor cooking, ropes course, retriever training, basic fishing and biking.
A complete Hunter Safety Certification Course is available as a course strand for the weekend. Participants in Hunter Safety take four required classes with additional evening instruction and a Sunday afternoon final test.

Club holding ‘fun shoots’
HARRISON – The Western Maine Fish & Game Club held its first Arnold Dugmore Memorial Trap Shooting Clinic on Sunday.
The event was free to introduce the sport of Trap Shooting to new shooters and also to give weekly trap shooters some free shooting to thank them for their support. The club had about 15 “students,” male and female, between the ages of 10 and 60.
The next scheduled fun shoot is the Curtis Gray Turkey Shoot, to be held Sunday, August 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Prizes will be available. FMI, visit www.westernmaine fishandgame.com.
