MINOT – Three people were arrested and 31 summoned to court after police were tipped off to a large party of teens and young adults allegedly using drugs and alcohol Friday night at 38 Woodman Hill Road.
Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department’s Alcohol Enforcement Team was in the area on an enforcement detail when they got the tip, sheriff’s Capt. Ray Lafrance said. Partygoers ranged in age from 15 to 21.
Arrested were:
• Kristen Simpson, 19, of 38 Woodman Hill Road, on a charge of furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol. She was summoned on charges of possession of marijuana and sale and use of drug paraphernalia.
• Thomas Harrison, 20, of Minot, charged with disorderly conduct.
• Brandon Brown, 20, of Poland, charged with disorderly conduct.
Officers also summoned 12 juveniles and 19 adults on charges of consumption of alcohol by a minor. Their names were not available Monday night.
Approximately 75 partygoers were at the house, according to a statement by county Chief Deputy Michael Ward.
Alcohol investigator Rob Ullrich responded to the home with four officers from the Lewiston Police Department, Ward said.
Officers seized alcohol, 40 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and prescription drugs, according to the statement. The Lewiston Police Department’s drug-sniffing dog Yurri “located narcotics thrown out around the property after some of the partygoers fled into the woods,” Ward reported.
The investigation was led by Androscoggin County Deputies Dan Vachon and Moe Drouin.
“We’re just starting to scratch the surface,” LaFrance said. “We’re starting to see a lot more of this because we have an alcohol enforcement team that’s looking for it.”
LaFrance said he does not believe the prevalence of underage drinking is increasing, but that incidents such as Friday’s are coming to light more frequently because of increased funding for the enforcement team.
The team is a collaboration of the Lewiston, Auburn and Lisbon Police Departments, the Sheriff’s Department and Healthy Androscoggin, Ward wrote. Funding for the team comes through a grant from the Maine Office of Substance Abuse, LaFrance explained.
Lewiston’s is the only department with a full-time alcohol enforcement officer.
