CHICAGO (AP) – White Sox slugger Carlos Quentin just can’t get out of the way.
Quentin was hit by a pitch Thursday and has been plunked in his last six games, sending baseball historians scrambling to find a similar streak.
Quentin is the only player since 1920 to be hit by a pitch in six straight games, according to Elias Sports Bureau. Quentin, who leads the AL with 32 homers, has been plunked a major league-high 20 times this season.
Quentin missed two games after he was struck on the left forearm by a pitch from Boston’s Josh Beckett on Monday night, and was hit by Kansas City’s Kyle Davies in the first inning Thursday.
Quentin has a history of being hit with pitches. In 379 minor league games, he was hit 112 times, including 43 times in 2004 when he played for Class A Lancaster and Double-A El Paso.
Entering this year, Quentin had been hit 19 times in parts of two major league seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
