Scholarship winner will attend Harvard
AUBURN – The Woman’s Literary Union’s annual scholarship has been awarded to Daniel Pellerin, a 2008 graduate of Leavitt Area High School. He will attend Harvard College in Cambridge, Mass. Pellerin is the son of Daniel and Stacy Pellerin of Leeds.
Pellerin was active in varsity cross country running, skiing and track, Odyssey of the Mind, Student Council, Latin Club, National Honor Society and the Maine Readiness Campaign.
He received the Maine State Principal’s Award (2008), the William J. Irish Award and AP Scholar Award in 2007. He was a member of the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference all-academic cross country team.
The literary union’s purpose is the cultural and intellectual advancement of women.. The scholarship is available to a student graduating from a high school in Androscoggin County who plans to enter the field of arts and literature.
The group was organized in 1892. Meetings are held at the Horatio G. Foss Mansion on the second Thursday of each month.
There is a WLU Garden Club meeting on the third Thursday of each month, and the WLU AfterDark Club for younger members of the community that meets on the second Thursday of each month. New members are welcome.
The Scholarship Committee is composed of Marguerite Powers, Mildred Bickford, Melanie Ness and Barbara Randall.
