DURHAM – A teen driver was cited for improper passing in a single-car crash on Route 136 Monday afternoon that injured two.
Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Jim Jacques identified the driver as Mahadho Gure, 17, of Lewiston. According to Jacques, Gure was driving north on Route 136, a short distance before the Old Brunswick Road intersection and was attempting to overtake and pass two cars ahead of her when a third car approached from the opposite direction.
She swerved to avoid a collision, went off the right shoulder, and the rear of car slammed into an embankment before coming to a stop, Jacques said.
Both she and her passenger, Mariam Ali, 22, of Lewiston complained of pain and were taken by Durham Fire and Rescue to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where they were treated and released.
Gure’s 1995 Plymouth was demolished, with loss estimated at $2,500 in the 2:50 p.m. crash, Sgt. Jacques said.
