ALFRED (AP) – Police say a New Hampshire man and his mother were killed in a car crash in Alfred, Maine.

The York County Sheriff’s Department says 57-year-old George Laliberte of Bedford, N.H., was driving on Maine Route 111 when his car drifted into the lane of an oncoming concrete truck.

Witnesses say the truck driver tried to avoid the collision by going into a ditch, but it was too late.

Laliberte was pronounced dead at the scene. His 88-year-old mother, Alma Laliberte of Biddeford, Maine, was in the car with him and died Thursday evening at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The truck driver was not injured.
