BRANDON, Vt. (AP) – Vermont State Police say a 22-year-old Burlington man is dead following a series of drive-by shootings at rural homesteads and a police chase that ended with the man taking his own life.

Police say they used a spike strip to deflate the tires and stop the Jeep Cherokee driven by Joshua Hall, but that Hall shot himself in the head as they approached. He was pronounced dead later at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Police say the incident began about 4 a.m. Saturday when they began receiving reports of drive-by shootings at homes in Monkton, New Haven and Waltham. No injuries were reported.

A trooper spotted Hall’s vehicle about 45 minutes later and police gave chase for about 25 minutes before stopping Hall on U.S. Route 7.
