For as many strides as the Lewiston Maineiacs have taken in the week or so since they first convened at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee, there are still many more to go.
Facing a Drummondville squad loaded with veterans, the Maineiacs dropped a 7-2 decision to the Voltigeurs on Friday night in Granby, Quebec in their third exhibition game of the shortened preseason.
Newly-acquired 20-year-old skaters Dany Masse and Yannick Riendeau combined for three goals and four assists for the home team, while starting goalie Antoine Tardif stopped 14 of the 16 shots he faced to earn the victory.
Six of the Volts’ seven goals came via the power play, against an incomplete Lewiston penalty-kill unit.
For the Maineiacs, Etienne Brodeur notched his first preseason goal, as did veteran defenseman Patrick Cusack in his first game action of the year.
Phillip Wright allowed four goals in the first half of the game, and gave way to Jonathan Connely, who allowed three pucks past him in the final half.
Lewiston returns to the ice Saturday night at the Colisee against Drummondville in its final tune-up before the season opens next Friday. The Maineiacs expect to ice a team Saturday with a few more veterans than they’ve been playing.
