LEWISTON – Adele A. Godish, 83, died peacefully Sept. 9, after a stoic struggle with Alzheimer’s disease and cancer.

She was born March 21, 1925, in Rumford, the daughter of Stanley and Annie (Norkus) Jonaitis.

Her family moved from 415 Franklin St., Rumford to the Ridge Road in Peru in 1939.

She was educated in local schools, Pettingill School, Peru Grammar School and Stephens High School.

She worked for many years in the Diamond Match Co. of Peru on the snap pin machines.

She married Alexander Godish on Oct. 24, 1959. He predeceased her on Nov. 12, 1983.

She called the family farm in Peru her home for most of her adult life. She moved to the Dixfield Square Apartments for a time before becoming a resident of the Maine General Alzheimer’s Center in Gardiner.

She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, music, reading, movies, crocheting, Lithuanian cooking and most importantly, her weekly hair appointments. She was a lifelong member of the Lithuanian Daughters of America and the Lithuanian Alliance of America.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Godish, of Lisbon Falls.

She was predeceased by brothers, Walter P. Jonaitis and Stanley N. Jonaitis.
