WILTON – The search was on Friday for a man accused of cleaning out a gas station cash register Thursday night while an attendant was helping a patron change a flat tire outside.
Police said the suspect fled Gould’s Exxon Service Station in a pink and black Chevrolet pickup truck and headed toward Farmington on Route 2.
The theft was reported about 7 p.m. Thursday. A day later, police said they had developed numerous leads in the case and were sorting through tips on the suspect’s identity.
However, by late in the day Friday, no arrests had been made.
Police said a Gould’s employee was helping a patron change a flat tire when he looked up and spotted a white man in his 20s, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, removing cash from the register.
The suspect fled from the station at routes 2 and 156.
On Friday, police were asking that anyone with information about the theft or the suspect contact them at the Wilton Police station at 645-3876.
Investigators did not disclose how much money was taken. No threat of force was used and nobody was hurt.
