RUMFORD – Firefighters and engines were busy Monday afternoon responding to calls in Rumford and neighboring Andover.
Deputy Chief Richard Coulombe said strong winds apparently caused electricity to flicker in the east Rumford section of town setting off the fire alarm at the Linnell Motel at 1:38 p.m. Four firefighters and two engines responded to the alarm, which was reset.
As soon as that was completed, at 2:15 p.m., another alarm came in from the Andover Fire Department requesting mutual aid for a reported brush fire on the East B Hill Road. Two engines, a tanker and four firefighters responded.
A search along that road and Route 26 to Upton by the Andover Fire Department revealed no brush fire, said Coulombe.
Rumford firefighters and firefighting apparatus returned to the station at 3:45 p.m.
