Business development

Issue: Department heads periodically make presentations to update the council on programs and activities.

The scoop: Economic and Community Development Director Rosie Bradley reported Aubuchon Hardware will move into its new building next to Midtown Shopping Center on Nov. 1; and Maurice Bonneau’s Sausage Kitchen on Main Street is expected be in its new location by Oct. 15.

A new bridal shop, Enchanted Wedding Service, is scheduled to open Sept. 27 on Main Street. It is owned by Ellie Bowie.

The Downtown Revitalization group is looking for new members.

Bradley reached an agreement with the owner of the Worumbo Mill property on Canal Street and received the OK from the owner to seek redevelopment proposals.

Announcements:

The scoop: Michael Raskin, doing business as The Madhouse, received a victualer’s license.

The scoop: The council will appoint three people to the Ethics Panel after interviewing seven applicants.

The scoop: The council accepted the resignations of Daniel Goyotte of the Planning Board and Kelsey Purinton of the Conservation Commission.

The scoop: The council appointed Toby Williams to the Conservation Commission; Pauline Mathieu to the Trails Commission and Carroll Curtis as alternate to the Recreation Committee. The three-year terms expire in 2011.

The scoop: Town Manager Steve Eldridge reported the recent energy meeting was successful. The council decided to solicit donations to establish an emergency heating fund.

The scoop: The Police Department established a citizen outreach program where seniors and others who may be at risk will be contacted regularly by the department.

The scoop: Two Bowdoin College students studying environmental science will work with Town Engineer Ryan Leighton.
