NEW GLOUCESTER – Kelsey Redmond picked up an indirect kick and poked the ball home with her knee to record the game-winning goal with 4:40 to go in regulation as Gray-New Gloucester edged past Poland 2-1.
The Knights (2-2-1) got on the board first with a goal by Kelsie Taylor, who beat a Gray-New Gloucester defender and fired a shot from the 18-yard line. The Patriots (2-1-1) answered back with a goal from Elyse Doyle.
Taylor Damon stopped seven shots in net for Gray-New Gloucester, while Sam St. Pierre made 10 saves for Poland. Laura Getchell and Liz Lobozzo had solid performances for the Knights.
Lisbon 2, Winthrop 0
WINTHROP – Ashley Beaulieu tallied a goal and an assist in the second half to send Lisbon to a 2-0 win over Winthrop in MVC girls’ soccer action Thursday.
Beaulieu took a crossing pass from Brooke Lawrence and headed it in to break a scoreless tie with 9:13 left in the game. Tara Metzger added the insurance goal on a breakaway assisted by Beaulieu.
Sam Purcell stopped seven shots to preserve the shutout for the Greyhounds (5-0). Anna Smithgall made 12 saves while Karen Rice and Lindsay Gordon both played outstanding games for the Ramblers (2-1-1).
Wells 2, St. Dom’s 1
WELLS – Emily Wood scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal off a feed from Kelly Veisswagner in the first half to give Wells a 2-1 win over St. Dom’s. Brooke Stevens scored first, converting a pass from Lily Colley.
For the Saints, Steph Costello picked up a cross from Erynne Landry and carried it into the net, to help cut the Warriors advantage in half.
Hall-Dale 6, Monmouth 0
MONMOUTH – Erika Brann led a group of six players to register goals as Hall-Dale rolled to a 6-0 rout over Monmouth in anther MVC soccer tilt Thursday.
Ariel Howes, Hailey Longfellow, Sarah Bosse, Meg Cousins and Kerry Fredette also tallied for the Bulldogs (3-2) to complete the scoring. Anna Levesque made four saves to notch the shutout.
Mt. Abram 2, Carrabec 0
SALEM – Rebecca London tapped in the insurance goal after collecting a cross from the middle by Noelle Lake to lead Mt. Abram to a 2-0 shutout over Carrabec Thursday.
Marie Parrett scored the first Roadrunner goal off a breakaway just under three minutes into the contest before London would score five minutes later.
Keeper Kenni Norton needed to block just two shots to earn the win. For the Cobras, MacKenzie Weese had a commendable performance, making 27 saves.
Field hockey
Cony 2, EL 0
AUGUSTA – Brittany Ford and Chelsea Begin each scored in the first half to give Cony the edge they needed to beat Edward Little 2-0 in field hockey Thursday afternoon.
Ford nudged the ball in off a feed from Kayla Belanger. Belanger would assist again on Begin’s goal that she fired successfully into the right corner of the cage.
Felisha Taylor turned aside seven saves to preserve the shutout for the Rams, while Kayla Cummings made 10 saves for the Eddies.
Messalonskee 4, Oxford Hills 0
SOUTH PARIS – Miranda Kinsman netted a pair of goals to propel Messalonskee to a 4-0 victory over Oxford Hills in a KVAC matchup Thursday.
Hannah Thomberg and Brie Warner also tallied for the Eagles (5-0) to complete the scoring. Mikee McCafity needed only one save to record the shutout.
Mt. Blue 2, Morse 1
FARMINGTON – Johanna LaPlant converted a pass from Kaitlyn Bullen with 11:53 remaining in regulation to lift Mt. Blue to a 2-1 KVAC victory over Morse.
Bullen gave the Cougars (3-2) a 1-0 advantage before Emily Powers answered on a corner kick. Amanda Hall made 15 saves for Mt. Blue to record the win. Alejandra Rodriguez turned aside 14 shots in net for Morse.
Skowhegan 11, Lewiston 0
SKOWHEGAN – Erin Sevey had Lewiston’s number, as she notched six goals to lead Skowhegan to an 11-0 routing over the Blue Devils Thursday in more local field hockey action.
Carrie Anderson, McKayla Kitvmaua, Nicole Sevey, Holly Danen, and Makayla Hancock each scored for Skowhegan (4-0) as well.
Megan Narrock needed to stop just four saves to earn the shutout. Skowhegan dominated the field, outshooting Lewiston 60-4.
