WATERTOWN, Conn. (AP) – A 78-year-old man drowned and two other people were injured Saturday in separate boating accidents.

The elderly man was on Lake Winnemaug in Watertown with his 37-year-old son in a 10-foot aluminum row boat when it apparently began to sink. A passer-by heard calls for help around 9:30 a.m. and saw the son hanging on to the side.

The father was pulled from the water and pronounced dead at the scene. The son was taken to Waterbury Hospital. Their names have not been released.

On the Connecticut River near the Rocky Hill boat launch, a 57-year-old man fell off his 17-foot powerboat and could not pull himself back in. He was taken to Hartford Hospital.

The incident also occurred around 9:30 a.m.
